Thomas creating the world’s first reaping machine in 1811. The town birthed famed sculptor William Rinehart, who left a lasting legacy through his art.
In 1862, the Western Maryland Railroad shops and offices were established, leading to significant innovations like the knuckle railroad coupler. Union Bridge played a crucial role during the Battle of Gettysburg, serving as a hub for transporting wounded soldiers.
