About Dan Ortel
Dan offers his unique training approach in Carroll and the surrounding counties, bringing the gym to clients’ doorsteps. With virtual sessions, individuals can be located anywhere in the world and still embark on their fitness journey. Dan is not solely focused on exercise, however. When he is not training clients, he enjoys playing his guitar or leading a sing-along and church service at a local nursing home. He enjoys reading, barbecuing, keeping up with current events, and serving his local church community. He has been married to Sandy, his wife, since 1990, and together they have two furry pets, Addie, a Sheltie-Poodle cross, and Jessie, a rescued cat. They have lived in their Hampstead residence for over three decades.
What is Dan’s secret to success? Rather than focusing on sales, he dedicates his energy to fostering and relishing relationships with his clients. When exercise is enjoyable, it is a win-win situation for everyone, and the sales end takes care of itself. What is Dan’s exercise philosophy, then? It is a well-balanced and imaginative combination of muscle-building, calorie-burning, and joint-supporting exercises, combined with smart nutrition. Staying healthy and happy becomes a fun lifetime pursuit when you have the right plan and know how to execute it correctly.

About Eldersburg, MD
Eldersburg, Maryland, nestled in the southeastern region of Carroll County, centers around the junction of MD Route 26 (Liberty Rd.) and MD Route 32 (Sykesville Rd). Its roots trace back to the 18th century when John Elder, granted land by the King of England, established the community of Eldersburg. He staked an 800-acre farm named Perseverance along a stagecoach route connecting Baltimore and Frederick, known today as Liberty Road.
Over time, the intersection of MD 32 and MD 26 flourished into a hub of commerce, boasting taverns, a blacksmith shop, and general stores. Nearby, the junction of MD 26 and Ridge Road featured a trading post, courthouse, and a place for turkeys to roost.
After the Revolutionary War, Elders was renamed Freedom due to a unique land-selling method where each lot purchase included an adjoining free lot. In the early 1800s, the massive 3,000-acre Springfield estate was laid out for William Patterson, a director of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Notably, Patterson’s daughter, Elizabeth, eloped to wed Jerome, the brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. Although the marriage took place, Napoleon later annulled it.
In 1825, James Sykes purchased 1,000 acres of land, revitalizing a saw and grist mill and constructing a cotton factory in the area that would evolve into Sykesville. This era witnessed remarkable growth and development in Sykesville and the Freedom region. In 1837, Carroll County was established, carving its territory out of Baltimore County’s western part and Frederick County’s eastern section.
