The Secret is No Secret: Consistency over Intensity, Progress over Perfection, Fundamentals over Fads
As the New Year began, I stumbled upon this meme and reposted it on social media. Memes can carry nuggets of wisdom, and this one resonates as we set our fitness goals for 2025.
Consistency over Intensity: Whether you’re learning a musical instrument, mastering a new language, or improving your fitness, start today. You’ll see progress even if you only dedicate ten or twenty minutes daily. The goal isn’t to exhaust yourself but to commit to small, daily efforts. Pick up that guitar, go for a short walk, or practice that new habit for a few minutes each day. Over time, these small actions can lead to significant changes.
Progress over Perfection: Don’t aim for the unattainable. Instead, focus on daily progress. Small steps accumulate into substantial results.
Fundamentals over Fads: Avoid the latest fitness craze that promises quick results. Stick to the basics in any discipline you’re interested in for sustainable progress.
Over and Over Again: Ten or twenty minutes daily can lead to new skills or habits before you realize it.
Why not start today? This approach isn’t just for fitness or learning; it’s a life philosophy. Small, consistent efforts can lead to profound changes, making your resolutions achievable and transformative.
That said, don’t even make a resolution; set a goal or two and start with simple and small (fundamental), regular “baby steps” (consistent) to make some progress (not perfection) this year in some area of life that you’ve been meaning to change.
You can do this!
